Tu Bishvat Cherry Tree Planting
This month, Clifton’s Jewish community celebrated the festival of Tu Bishvat, which is the Jewish New for Trees.
To mark this occasion, members of Clifton’s Jewish community and its Environmental Society joined with residents of School House to plant a new Cherry Tree in the grounds of the boarding house.
The Jewish Chaplain, Rabbi Gerrard, and the Head of the Environmental Society, Mr Bates, spoke about the importance of trees and tree planting in both Jewish tradition and for the future of our planet.
Mr Bates quoted a particularly poignant Chinese proverb: “The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago, the second best time is now.”
Under the guidance of the grounds staff, pupils learnt how to plant and stabilise a young tree – we can’t wait to watch it bloom!
