An important feature of Sixth Form life is the Junior Common Room (JCR), which provides the older students with the opportunity to meet, talk and relax on their own terms.
Based in the Crypt beneath the Chapel, the JCR is open as a café and common room during the day and is a popular social centre.
Hot and cold food and drinks are available at lunchtimes, including soups, jacket potatoes, panini, pizza, hot and cold sandwiches, freshly-prepared salads and homemade cakes.
Evening events at the JCR include music events, and themed nights, but the Common Room’s most important function is as a place for students to socialise and to relax.
Tutoring in the Sixth Form
Every Sixth Form student is part of a tutor group made up of a mix of boys and girls, and boarding and day students, from a variety of Houses.
The role of a Sixth Form tutor focuses on providing academic and pastoral support to their tutees. Sixth Form tutors also provide specialist guidance in areas such as university application and other post-Clifton options.
There are timetabled tutor sessions two times a week, as well as optional 1:1 meetings on Saturday mornings. Senior Tutors ensure that there is a coherent theme to be covered in tutor group sessions each week. Of course, it is likely that tutors will catch up with their tutees on an individual basis during the week, for example when supporting a music or drama event, or just by bumping into them around the campus.
The personalised attention, encouragement, and expertise provided by Clifton College faculty, highlights their pivotal role in shaping my educational journey. Without the invaluable assistance of Clifton’s teachers, I would not have achieved such academic heights.
