A Spirit of Adventure
We cultivate a sense of curiosity, adventure and discovery in our dedicated Forest School. In a safe environment, children are allowed to explore their imagination in an outdoor setting, creating magical experiences that stay with them throughout their time in the Pre-Prep. Children make friends in Forest School, learn how to interact with the outdoor world and are taught practical skills that aid their overall development.
Benefits of Forest School
Hands-On Learning
Our immersive outdoor environment allows children to engage with the world around them. Through exploration and discovery, they develop a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.
Emotional Development
Forest School fosters confidence and resilience. By navigating challenges and working collaboratively with peers, children build essential social skills and a sense of belonging.
Physical Wellness
Outdoor activities promote physical health and well-being. Through climbing, running, and building, children enhance their motor skills and enjoy the benefits of fresh air and active play.
Creativity and Problem-Solving
Nature inspires creativity! Our programme encourages critical thinking and problem-solving as children engage in imaginative play and hands-on projects.
Environmental Awareness
By connecting with the outdoors, children develop a deep appreciation for nature. They learn the importance of caring for our planet and become responsible stewards of the environment.
Outdoor education is an essential part of the Clifton College Pre-Prep experience
Forest School is a favourite with everyone in the Pre-Prep!
From Preschool to Year 3, children enjoy a wide range of activities either at our dedicated Forest School site, nestled in our Beggar’s Bush grounds, or in The Forest Garden at school. With an ever-evolving environment on both sites, thanks to the skill and enthusiasm of Forest School Coordinator, Mr Cox, there is always something exciting and new to do or investigate.
Topic work runs alongside learning about conservation, sustainability and ecology. Risk taking, self-directed learning and play also benefit our children and the forest offers many opportunities for this to take place in a safe space.
- Children in Preschool and Reception have weekly visits to the forest where their time is spent following their interests, working on topic based activities or learning about our world.
- Year 1 and Year 2 use their sessions to expand on their learning in class. Particular favourite sessions include the ‘Percy the Park Keeper’ Treasure Hunt for Year 1 and the London’s Burning session for Year 2, bringing to life the books and topics studied in the classroom.
- Once in Year 3, the children get to spend a whole day in the forest each term. This gives them an ideal opportunity to work as a team, cook their own lunch on a campfire (campfire pizzas are the best!) and to spend time using all the forest skills they have learnt over their time in the Pre-Prep.
No two days are ever the same in the forest, and Mr Cox always has a new idea up his sleeve to ensure the children continue to benefit from the ‘magic of the forest’.
