Opera Choruses Joint Choirs Concert 2024
After a rousing overture (Wagner’s Die Meistersinger), highlights included Wagner’s Bridal Chorus (Lohengrin), Verdi’s Anvil Chorus (Il trovatore), Puccini’s Humming Chorus (Madama Butterfly), Bizet’s Toreador Song (Carmen), and Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances (Prince Igor) both sumptuous and full of pagan colour.
Particular thanks to our pupil soloists (from Year 8 to Year 13) who firstly as part of a more light-hearted Gilbert and Sullivan sequence performed ‘Poor wand’ring one’ and ‘The Policeman’s Song’ from Pirates of Penzance, and later ‘Evening Prayer’ from Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel – showing wonderful characterisation and vocal tone balanced against the choral and orchestral forces.
Bravi tutti!
