Joint Choirs Concert 2025

A hearty congratulations to all who took part in the 2025 Joint Choirs Concert, combining the forces of the pupils of the Prep and Upper School, together with staff, parents, teachers and friends, the Choir of Fishponds CE Primary School, and our visiting international artists, the Fine Arts Brass Quintet.

The concert opened with a rousing rendition of Vaughan Williams’ regal ‘The Old 100th Psalm Tune’ (first performed at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953). The concert continued with folk songs from John Rutter’s The Sprig of Thyme, jointly performed by the Prep Chapel Choir and Fishponds CE Primary School, with specially arranged brass lines for our visiting ensemble. The first half finished with Rutter’s Gloria. Solos from Aspen, Joung Youn and Alice were performed wonderfully. Fine Arts Brass were joined by student performers Nicole on trumpet and Arda on percussion.

Following a short interval, the concert continued in a lighter fashion, with a suite of Count Basie tunes. The atmosphere in Chapel was giving Ronnie Scott’s vibes, and these numbers went down well with the audiences and Choir members alike! More folk songs from The Sprig of Thyme followed, before the evening was rounded off to a close with Duke Ellington’s foot-tappingly catchy Suite from the Sacred Concerts. Tricky solos were made to look easy by Jemima and Alice, and the audience all left swinging, as Fine Arts Brass played everyone out, having dazzled and amazed all evening.
