Her Majesty, The Queen

Black and white image of the late queen

We write this following the very sad news last night of the death of Her Majesty, The Queen.

Clifton, founded in 1862, was honoured to receive a Royal Charter in 1877 and was visited by the then Princess Elizabeth in 1950.

Today along with other schools and institutions across the country we have written to the Private Secretary to Her Majesty the Queen, The Rt Hon Sir Edward Young KCVO, to extend our deepest condolences to members of the Royal Family.

As a global community with pupils, Old Cliftonians, staff and parents from many countries across the world, we know that not all will have recognised the Queen as Head of State. We do however all come together to give thanks for the years of duty, dedication and service that she gave in this country and abroad.

Today we have held a service for the Upper School in Chapel and another service for the Preparatory School will be held tomorrow.

The College will hold a further service for the wider community during the days of national mourning. The provisional date for this is Saturday 17th September at 11:00am and further details of this service will follow. We very much hope that many of you will be able to join us.
