Clifton College Upper School Cricket update
Once the ECB issued the covid-19 template for cricket net practices to take place, Clifton took the opportunity to train in preparation for whatever cricket season may take place throughout the second half of the Summer Term.
Practices were split into defined 50-minute slots, for three hours, every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the second half of the term. Just being in the nets and playing cricket outdoors did much for the mental health of all those that took part. It was thoroughly enjoyable.
September cricket has been talked about for some time in schools and this September was the perfect time to ‘give it a go’. Clifton fielded four teams in block fixtures throughout the month, with the 1st XI playing 10 games between Friday 4th and Friday 25th September. As well as school fixtures, the 1st XI also played the MCC and both Gloucestershire and Glamorgan academy sides.
All those that were involved in the ‘Cricket in September’ programme would agree that it was a huge success. Now there will be more of those asking “shall we play cricket in September?”, rather than simply saying September is the start of the school rugby season. We shall see what happens in 2021.
