Autumn Concert 2024
Despite the snow and cold outside, in the Chapel on 24th November there was a warming variety of music performed by the Upper School pupils at the wonderful annual Autumn Concert.
From the Concert Band in two large numbers by Philip Sparke and Adam Gorb, we moved to items given by the Guitar, Brass and Clarinet and Saxophone Ensembles, alongside the Wind Quintet and the newly-created Big Band.
As interludes, we had three extracts from three different Mozart Violin Concertos – played by Antonia, Henry and Sophie all in Year 13 – acting as a ‘dress rehearsal’: each was auditioning the following day for their place at London conservatoires – we wish them the very best of luck!
Also notably were the student-conducted performances which concluded the evening: Sophie conducting the Strings Ensemble in the Finale of Tchaikovsky’s impassioned sextet ‘Souvenir de Florence’ and Antonia the full Orchestra in Jupiter from Holst’s The Planets (Holst celebrating his 150th anniversary year).
