Clifton College is committed to embedding safeguarding into the whole school. Pastoral care and academic achievement go hand in hand and we recognise that one cannot flourish without the other. Our pupils perform best when they are happy and secure, so Clifton College is proud to have built a caring and supportive community.
From time to time our pupils may face difficulties and challenges in their personal or school lives, so at Clifton College we ensure all pupils can choose to access listening and counselling services to help them develop resilience to be able to deal with these.
What is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.
Safeguarding means:
- Providing help and support to meet the needs of children as soon as problems emerge
- Protecting children from maltreatment, whether that is within or outside the home, including online
- Preventing the impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development
- Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
- Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
Safeguarding encompasses child protection, health care plans, health and safety, site security, safety on school trips, mental health, safety online, anti-bullying and so much more.
The College has a dedicated team of staff working to promote safeguarding and child protection across the college, as well as the Council Safeguarding and Welfare committee; formed to identify and remedy any weaknesses in the school’s safeguarding arrangements that are brought to its attention, as well as ensuring that policies, procedures and training are up to date.
It is our aim to support each girl and boy through their life at Clifton College. Our Safeguarding And Protecting Children Policy has been developed, in line with government guidance and adopted to support our aim.
The College has a responsibility to create a culture of safe recruitment, which we take very seriously. Our Recruitment, Selection And Disclosure Policy And Procedure is set firmly within our practice to inform safe decisions concerning the suitability of a prospective employee.
