Clifton College has an impressive selection of first-class sports facilities. The ninety-acre site known as Beggar’s Bush is Bristol’s biggest outdoor sports complex, providing pupils with international standard indoor and outdoor sporting facilities.
In addition to 20 acres of local playing fields, including the Close and College fields situated at the main School site, the nintety-acres of playing fields at Beggar’s Bush includes:
- 3G Football pitch
- Olympic standard 4G hockey pitch
- Real tennis court
- 24 tennis courts
- Two Astroturf hockey pitches
- Mountain Biking Trail
- Archery
- Low Ropes Centre
The recently opened Chellaram Sports Complex at our Beggar’s Bush Sports Ground features a multi-purpose floor that accommodates:
- 3 Netball Courts
- 3 Tennis Courts
- 12 Badminton Courts
- 3 Basketball Courts
- 10 Cricket Lanes
Additionally, the complex includes a bouldering wall, an indoor hockey pitch, space for touch rugby and several table tennis areas. The new development also includes bleacher seating for 208 spectators, along with associated facilities such as toilets, changing rooms and equipment storage.
The sports hall has been designed to have a much-reduced energy consumption, meeting current energy efficiency and sustainability standards including BREEAM Excellent.
Bristol is also uniquely situated to offer many outdoor activities. As well as the Avon Gorge, which offers ample opportunity for rock climbing, we also have the River Avon, Mendip Hills, the Brecon Beacons, the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley, with a range of rivers, cliffs and mountains. Regular trips are organized to the Quantock Hills, Exmoor and Dartmoor.
