Trophy Glory for Clifton College Boys Rugby

Clifton College went on a barnstorming winning run of eight matches throughout the Michaelmas Term to win the 2024 SOCS Daily Mail School Trophy. A commanding 44-13 win over Seaford College sealed our position at the top of the national competition, contested by more than 140 school teams.

Our campaign began in September, with a statement win over reigning champions Harrow, 26-12. Despite a narrow 21-19 loss to Sedbergh, the team’s consistency and attacking strength ensured we remained in contention. Key victories over difficult opposition in Millfield (31-26) and Wellington (19-12), and bonus-point wins against Kingswood, St Edward’s, Taunton, Sir Thomas Rich’s, Blundell’s and finally Seaford secured the title.

Director of Rugby Matt Salter reflected “It’s been a hard-fought league, we’ve faced some incredibly talented schools but we have been very open from the start that we wanted the toughest challenges for our boys, so I’m immensely proud of the team. We’ve used 42 players across the fixtures, and it’s been fantastic to see so many boys feel part of this success. Congratulations to all of them, they’ve done the College proud.”

The College was led by fullback Ollie H, with Glen G on the wing emerging as the top points scorer thanks to 12 tries and another 72 from the boot, contributing to an outstanding team total of 433 points scored. There were also standout performances in the scrum from prop George L, flanker Harrison J, centre Freddie S and lock Jake S and a notable mention to Fin K-L who lifted the trophy in his final game for the school after being here since nursery.

Congratulations to all the squad and coaches!
