Remembrance Services 2024
This weekend was significant in the life of the College. Like many people across the country, we gathered in Chapel on Saturday and Sunday with parents and guests to remember with gratitude and thanksgiving those who have given their lives in the service of others.
On Saturday, we were treated to the Prep School choir singing Chilcott’s arrangement of ‘Londonderry Air’ which was hauntingly beautiful. On Sunday the Upper School choir’s rendition of Ireland’s ‘Greater Love’ was sublimely sung giving a wonderful space for reflection.
It was a joy to welcome Major Edward Cobham with us for both services. He spoke about the importance of remembering. He encouraged us to remember and have gratitude for the many ways in which people sacrifice their time and energy in large and small ways to help us. Importantly, as we remember the help of others, we were challenged to find ways of paying it forward. In doing so we help to create a world that is kinder and more generous.
The CCF led the dignified and moving wreath laying ceremony at Memorial Arch, which was brought to a close in prayer by the Chaplain, the Revd Mel Parkin.
