Rowing at Clifton College is inclusive of all abilites and promotes strong teamworking skills.

During the Michaelmas Term, rowing is largely for those who already have some rowing experience. There are land sessions offered at least twice a week, based at the College itself. Other sessions on the water are provided, where the focus is on ability and confidence in small boats and it is hoped that oarspersons attend local winter head races. The key focus in this term is to develop strength and conditioning and the technical skills of sculling

The Lent Term sees the rowing programme expand and any person is invited to join the club regardless of experience. There is capacity for those who have never tried the sport to come and have a go. For those who already have rowed before, a focus is to race at the Schools’ Head of the River. River sessions are three times a week, whilst additional land based gym and ergo sessions are also provided.

In the Summer Term the summer regatta racing season is in full swing. Crews will have been formed in the Lent Term and now it’s time to really test skill and strength on the local regatta circuit. There can be the capacity after half term for further novices to come and join the club to try out the sport. Training shifts towards the majority of the time on the water, with water sessions 3-4 times a week.

Rowing has been a life-changing sport for me, I have gained a lot of experience on water and off water. Being down at the river has given me a chance to forget any problems and just relax.
