The House Play Festival 2023
The House Play Festival saw ten comedies and two dramas performed over the course of four very busy nights, with each house bringing energy and commitment to their performances.
Oakeley’s took home the Best Production cup for their slick, pacy performances of Shakers Re-stirred, artfully directed by Gabriella. This was an impressive performance from four actors playing cocktail waitresses, but also multi-rolling impressively as a range of customers, and saw Bea also take home the Best Actor in a Comedy Award.
East Town’s hilarious retelling of Blackadder Goes Forth won Best Comedy, with actors playing larger than life characters and demonstrating excellent timing, and Seb, who played the clueless Baldrick, also winning the Best 3rd Form Performance award.
Best Drama went to Wiseman’s performance of Two, an ambitious performance which saw moments of comedy juxtaposed with tragedy in the final scenes, and saw Felix win the Best Actor in a Drama award in his role as the Landlord.
Other notable plays which were just pipped to the post were Hallward’s hilarious performance of Too Many Daughters, an Austin-inspired comedy about a family trying to marry their daughters off to wealthy men, and Watson’s This is Not a Test, for which Peter won Best Stage Presence for his depiction of Alan, a student woefully unprepared for an important exam.
The festival really showcased the breadth of talent in both acting and directing, and also demonstrated what can be achieved with commitment and support within Clifton’s house system, well done to everyone involved in making it such a successful and enjoyable event!
