Meet the New Jo Cooper Music Scholars!
For the first time ever in September 2020, Clifton awarded its top music scholarship – the Joseph Cooper award – to two musicians, Sophie and Henry. Both are now in Year 9 and in spite of lockdown have offered sensational performances as part of the online concert released today.
Here Sophie is playing Bruch’s demanding violin concerto (first movement), brilliantly accompanied by Mr Drinkwater – provided remotely of course. She has also just won the Violin Prize of the Junior Royal Academy of Music – bravo Sophie! We can’t wait to actually hear you in school next term.
Here Henry is playing part of the virtuosic and much loved violin concerto Winter by Vivaldi – most appropriate for all the recent weather. He has a wonderful tone and musicality – and again, we really look forward to hearing him in school in a live concert very soon.
Well done to all the other scholars who have contributed to the superb online offering and to all the musicians that took part in the lockdown orchestra’s performance of Walton’s March from Richard III above.
